Hi All,

I have just fitted a hobbywing 150A ESC and a 4465sl motor in an otherwise stock summit and im really pleased. 

The motor and ESC went in easily and when running on 4S LiPo the summit has about 50% more top end speed. It goes like a train!

I just bought this Hobbywing brushless system from hobbyhot and it seems pretty good for the price. you get a 40mm x 68mm 2700kv motor and 120-amp speed control with fan, good up to 4s lipo. I bought the single motor plate and dust cover from the e-revo brushless edition and am using the stock 68 tooth spur gear with an 18 tooth pinion. I mounted the esc with double sided tape, but later found a plastic esc mount, 2-pinion gears, some shrink tubing and screws in the box. The kit also comes with a programming card. Seems like a very complete system and a great price for what you get. 

I just got a Hobbywing XeRun 4168SL 2250kV motor this week and must say it is very nice! The overall machining and build is virtually flawless. The front endbell is held in via 4x hex screws and the rear endbell is captured via 3x hex screws. The motor wires are more flexible and the insulation is also softer and more pliable. Overall, a much better looking motor compared to the previous EZRun 1/8-motors. The motor wires also exit through a black rubber piece almost identical to those used on Neu-Castles. Comparing it to my Neu-Castle, it looks just as nice and many characteristics look very similar or identical. I wouldn't be surprised if Hobbywing contracted the same mfr that makes CC's Neu-Castle motors.
Supposedly these new Hobbywing XeRun motors are 4-pole. I never got a response from HW when I emailed them to confirm that. So far, the specs shown on chinese RC forums and chinese vendors all say 4-pole. I somewhat doubt that still, but am hopeful they really are 4-poles. I haven't had a chance to install it yet, but hope to soon to check out the performance.
Volume-wise, these are slightly larger than the Tekin and Neu-Castle motors since those are 40x68 and this is 41x68.
I'd really like to get my hands on their larger 4274SL 2000kV motor. It's 42mm with the machined-in fins, but I believe it's a 41mm case also.

Hobbywing is a factory in China, and she help other brand to rebrand, so called OEM.


The turnigy Plush and Guard esc's are Hobbywing Pentium and Sentry.
Hobbyking/city is rebranding Hobbywing. There is certainly nothing wrong with that as they are all outstanding controllers.

Just to add to this.

The volcano esc's sold from nitroplanes and hobbypartz are hobbywing esc's as well.

As are the Thunderpower esc's.

Same with the OEMRC and Emax ecs's.

All are hobbywing speed controllers.

Also Flightpower is selling rebranded hobbywing esc's under the "Flight Tech" name.

Additionally, the new line of speed controllers from Hobbywing, the Platinum's are sold by Hobbycity as the K-Force controller.

They are also sold by Nitroplanes and Hobbypartz as the Momentum controller.

There are many many more rebranded Hobbywing esc's out there.

OEMRC, EMAX, Lightening, The speed controllers "The Don" sells are Hobbywing's.

Hey guys and gals,

Thought I'd post an actual review of the Hobbywing Xerun 80A since i couldn't find many reviews on this ESC when I was considering ordering one.

First impressions: Excellent packaging, thorough instructions. The unit looks pretty cool with the shiny blue-ness going on. It came pre wired in the package with two Deans type plugs wired in series, and 4mm bullet connectors for the motor connection. In the package they also included mounting screws and double sided mounting tape for the controller and the switch, stickers, and heat shrink tubing.

Mounting in E-Revo: This is the part that surprised me - the mounting holes line up PERFECTLY with the E-Revo mounting holes! maybe that's just the industry standard size, but it seems to me that maybe the Hobbywing folks were targeting us E-Revo owners from the start on this thing. I took the bait and I'm glad I did.

Set up: I just ran it with the factory settings, and set up is really simple. I'm running it with a cheapo Hobby King 1900 KV 9XL motor, geared 17/65 on 2 2s zippy 4000 25C packs, wired in series. I noticed absolutely no cogging at all at low speeds. The power band is pretty linear and smooth, with a slight jump at about 80% throttle when it jumps into warp speed - this could probably be programmed out with the programmer box, which I'll purchase later. The only minor complaint I have is that the reverse delay is really short - we're talking milliseconds - on the factory settings. So, when you hit the brakes it almost immediately goes into reverse instead of holding the brakes for a few seconds. Again, probably something that can be dialed out with the programmer box.

Overall I'm very impressed and pleased with the purchase. If you're satisfied with 4s speed and power (so far I definitely am, HUGE improvement over the double brushed setup) then I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this setup. I don't have much wheel time on this setup yet, but as I get more I'll update the post. Chime in if you have questions - thanks for reading!
